Mammootty Vows Support for Drought Relief

Kochi: As the state reels under one of worst droughts in living memory, cine star Mammootty has come forward with a helping hand, assuring all support to the government in providing relief to the brought-hit people. And the thespian met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at the Guest house here on Wednesday and discussed ways to tackle the crisis situation. Emerging from the meeting, Mammootty said, “Several parts of the state are facing acute water scarcity. If the situation continues, the problem will get worse in the coming years.” According to him, he wanted to join hands with the NGO’s and social welfare organizations for undertaking drought- relief measures. It was also revealed that a meeting of like-minded people had been scheduled for Thursday to discuss the issue. “Anyone keen on associating themselves with drought-relief can participate in the meeting, which will be held at the Guest House,” the acclaimed actor said.

 

 

When floods devastated Chennai in December last, several organizations and individuals from Kerala came forward to help out the victims. “Now we are facing a crisis in our own state and I firmly believe there are several people who are ready to help our people,” Mammootty said.“There are limitations for one individual to do in a crisis the reason why we need more people to come forward,” he said. “I have come here to extend my support to the government,” he said, on the reason for his meeting with the Chief Minister.
