NAAC to visit Cusat in July

The inspection by the National Assessment Council (NAAC) team of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), which has been hanging fire for almost a year, is now set to take place in July. “The NAAC authorities have informed that they will be making the inspection by the second or third week of July. There was some delay on our part in getting prepared for the visit because of which it had to be postponed. We had to submit two reports and the second report got delayed and could be submitted only in last January as the university officials were held up with the preparation for submitting entry for the best university award instituted by the Governor,” said Dr J Letha, Vice Chancellor of Cusat.

She said that the university is now prepared to host the team and most of the requirements have been met within the existing limitations of the university. “More than 70 per cent of the faculty positions have been filled and infrastructure in different departments and constituent colleges has been refurbished,” she said.
The last NAAC inspection of the university was held in 2001 and it got ‘three star’ out of five star for a period of five years but after that the university was going without any accreditation. However with the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) of MHRD coming in force since 2013, NAAC accreditation has become mandatory to get Central funds.
