Kottayam: Braving the scorching sun of April, electioneering in the district is all set to get a major boost with the commencement of filing of nomination papers on Friday.
While the district administration has made all the arrangements for filing nominations, the political heavyweights are getting ready to file their paper on day one itself. Those, who will be filing nomination papers on day one include Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan (Kottayam segment) and Kerala Congress (M) chairman K M Mani (Pala segment). Radhakrishnan will file his nomination paper at Kottayam taluk office at Mini Civil Station around noon. He will reach the office escorted by Congress activists. K M Mani, who will leave his residence Pala by 9.30 am, will file his papers at District Collectorate around 12 pm.
Nomination papers can be filed till April 29 and assistant returning officers will receive the papers between 11 am and 3 pm. Sunday will be holiday. Nomination papers can be filed in person or through a nominee. According to officials, the concerned officer should point out the clerical mistakes, if any, before the candidate at the time of its filing, Scrutiny will be held on April 30. The returning officers of various Assembly segments are Sanjayan, Deputy Colletor, RR (Pala); T C Ramachanran, deputy Collector, LR (Kaduthuruthi); Alex Paul, Principal, agricultural officer (Vaikom); M P Jose, Puncha special officer (Kottayam); P K Nalini, deputy director, Survey (Ettumanoor); G Rema Devi, RDO, Kotayam (Puthupalli); T V Subhash, deputy Collector, LA (Changanassery); K J Tomy, ADC, general (Kanjrappally) and C K Prakash, RDO, Pala (Poonjar).
