MCdonald’s urged to stop use of Antibiotics in its Burgers

UK charity ShareAction has launched a petition urging McDonald’s to stop ‘pumping antibiotics’ into the meats used in its burgers. The petition notes a warning from The World Health Organization that such practices could push us into a post antibiotic era, where the drugs we rely on for medical treatments no longer work.

It urges the restaurant chain to prohibit the use of antibiotics in its meat and dairy supply chain globally. A McDonald’s spokesperson, said: “For many years we have been working closely with our suppliers to monitor and reduce the use of antibiotics in our supply chain. Like all UK retailers we adhere to wider industry guidelines on antibiotic use in our supply chain to ensure animal welfare is of the highest standard. We will continue our work with suppliers and industry experts on this issue.”
