Sharma Slots Next Test Drive on Call Quality by April

New Delhi: The telecom regulator Trai will analyse the call drop data from its recent drive through testing and take appropriate action’, the regulatory Chairman R S Sharma said here on Tuesday. The authority is likely to carry out another test drive in April to access the random call quality in various parts of the country.

Some telecom service providers opposed to the test drives carried out by Trai, Sharma said, Road tests are regularly done by Trai. From the last time, telecom firms have started raising objections saying you don’t consult us about the roads you are using.” Sharma added, whatever drive test we have done, have been done very objectively and in a transparent manner. And, if there are any more suggest ions on transparency, we are open for that. During the last test drive by the regulator between December 2015 and January 2016, most of the service providers did not meet the prescribed benchmark. These tests are conducted to improve call quality and reduce call drops.

The next test drive is likely to be in April. This time we have covered seven cities, if required we have covered seven cities, if required we will cover a couple of other cities as well. The regulator posted service quality results from drive  through in seven cities showing telcos had failed the random- drive tests in Delhi, Mumbai.
