The budget of ummen chandi has set aside Rs 117 crore for the coir industry

Alappuzha: the budget presented by chief minister Oommen chandy has brought smile on the face of those in the coir industry. The budget allocated on Friday has set aside Rs 117 crore for the coir industry. Coir good exporters shared their happiness after the presentation of the budget. CEO of a major coir exporting form of Alappuzha, Mahadevan P said “it is my understanding that he has set aside a sizable amount for floating an international scale factory for making coir based acoustic panels with private participation.”

Chief Ministers allocation, of funds for intiating several projects, may give a new- lease of life to the coir workers, he added.

DTP secretary C Pradeep said it is first in the history of budget, a special fund is being allocated for DTPC, it will add the confidence of the DTPC to take up more tourism oriented projects. The budget has allocated Rs 6.5 crore for the DTPC s in the state.

Asum of Rs 184.6 crore was allocated for the development of infrastructure facilities of the fishermen. A sum Rs 16 crore is sanctioned for the Mega Food Park at Cherthala. Cyber Park in Chengannur and a nusing college in Haripped were also proposed in the budget. Rs 1 crore for setting up an Agri poly Clinicat Chennithala. Rs 10 crore was allocated for the construction of a brige at Muttel in Kainkari panchayet for Rs 25 crore was allocated for the construction of Vilakkumaram brige in Nedumbraked in Cherthala. Rs 20 crore was allocated to Kerala Water Transport Department for constructing new boats and vessals. Conservation of historical and heritage were also given importance in the budget along with funds to conduct boat races.
