Kochi Corporation Scheme to hep city face climate change

The Kochi Corporation has been sitting on the climate change adaptation strategy and action plan prepared and b International Council for Local Environmental Initiative (ICLEL) for Kochi, the city was selected for another international programme change resilience.

 

The Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN) supported by the Rockfeller Foundation has selected Kochi for the programme called Climate change and the economic competitiveness of cities: Making the business case for adaptation. The other cities selected for the programme are Surat, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad (in Maharashtra) and Ludhiana. In total 40 cities from Bangladesh, India Indonesia Philippines Thailand and Vietnam have been selected.

 
ACCCRN is an international imitative built on a multi-year programme to strengthen the capacity of over 50 rapidly urbanising cities in the six countries to survive adapt and transform during climate –related stress and shocks. Meanwhile, the research document submitted by ICLEL after a two-year study still remains on paper. The study report submitted to the civic body as part of the international projects named Asian cities adapt have several recommendations to reduce the risks of climate change . Though the report was submitted more than two years ago, it has been put on the back burner. “The document has not been formally published and is in a frozen stage. No recommendations in the report could be implemented said sources in the corporation.
