Thiruvananthapuram: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said here on Wednesday that women of all age groups should be allowed to visit Sabarimala contradicting the UDF government stand that it is a religious matter and it cannot take a stand on such matters.
“My personal opinion is that women should be allowed to enter Sabrimala and there should not be any discrimination. I support the constitution: end discrimination, whether on grounds of caste, creed, sexual orientation, age or gender,” Tharoor told reporters here. He also contradicted the government stand that it was a matter of tradition. ‘In 1930s, drafts were not allowed to enter temples. Now, they are allowed. Hence, traditions can change.
