Alappuzha farmers ready with ‘Kani vellari” for Vishu

Alappuzha: Farmers of Kanjikuzhy Mararikkulam North and Cherthala South panchyats raday to market their golden cucumber (kani vellari) aiming Vishu Kani. Agriculture officer of Mararikkulam North grama penchant Queno Joseph said as many as 50 famers are engaged in farming only golden cucumber in these three grama penchants. “We have set up demonstration plot of golden cucumber in our penchant and the harvesting has stared now. As many as 3,5000kg golden cucumber is being harvested from this plot. Golden cucumber is now piced at Rs 30 per kg. We expect around Rs 70 per kg at the time Vishu,” she said. Jyothish Kanjikuzhy a major farmer in the panchayat said in they stated the cultivation of golden cucumber in January aiming the Vishu market. We need to spend only three cultivation. Rain is not apt for this cultivations. However this time summer rain damaged some of our yield he said.
